Jack and Nora's babies arrived Sept. 13, 2011- 2 little boys. Today is Sept. 29, 2011 so will post the newest pictures I have taken. These 2 little boys are not so little, I have a feeling they are going to be big boys! They are absolutely adorable right now, their eyes opened this week and they are now recognizing my voice and already enjoying being held and petted. These 2 little ones are available for sale @ $500.00 each. They will be ready to go to their forever homes in late Oct. first part of Nov. We have trucks running Midwest and West Coast so we can possibly deliver to some states, please inquire first about this. We have sent them with drivers before and it worked out good. I can tell already it's going to be hard for me to see them go, nothing better than baby puppies (all our children are gone from home so this fills the voids for sure). I will post new pics each week so come back and check in to see their progress, oh they are just so cute, can't really even capture it in the pictures- you must see them in person. Anyone wanting a pup, if you live not to far away, we recommend you come visit frequently so your puppy gets to know you prior to sending them home with you. Thanks for stopping by :)

Buyers please send updates and pictures if/when you can. We love hearing from all of you. It brings us alot of joy to get updates and we certainly appreciate it, we know you all have busy schedules. We never really stop thinking about all these pups and their new owners, no matter how much time goes by.... It's amazing how much can change with these pups from one week to the next. Our quiet little shy thing is coming into her own. She is having somewhat of a puppy tantrum this week because she wants to nurse and we say no more- time to eat on your own little one and give her momma a break. So yes, she is having a bit of a tantrum. That's ok, she will get over it with a little time. She is developing her own little personality. Her and Maggie are having a great time exploring in the yard during these nice days we are having. We have a huge yard so there is lots for the two of them to check out. Although they must be supervised- doesn't take long for these little pups to get into some kind of trouble.....I will have new photos of her on Wed. to upload.
Girl 3 SOLD to Lana in ND!
This little girl went to her new home Sun. Sept. 12, we are missing her so much but we know she is in very good hands. It's always hard to let go of these little pups but there is also something special in providing someone with a new puppy to love. We hope this sweet girl brings Lana and her family many years of joy. Don't ya just wish they could stay little puppies and this cute forever?? We were so blessed to have her as long as we did. She will make an awesome family pet for sure.

Maggie went to her new home 9/16, oh we are going to miss this little one. With one pup left to go, I am feeling that whole empty nest again, our world revolves around these pups when they are born, hmm what are we going to do without little Maggie. I know she is in great hands and I hope little Maggie provides Bette and her family as much joy and she did us. Puppies- very much like children- there is just nothing better in this world of ours.

These puppies are just to cute for words! As you can see we took the puppies outside a couple times this week to play. They certainly loved that! I posted some pictures below and some videos. I have more videos but am having difficulty getting them to upload to the blog so I will try again later, I will also post some more pictures tonight. Babies will be ready to go to their new homes in about 2-3 weeks. These pups are now 4 weeks old, starting to eat puppy food on their own. I am also starting them on their wormer this week and in about 2 weeks they will go in for their health check at the vet clinic, once they are given a healthy puppy check then they will be ready for new homes.

Well, lets just say this big girl I would keep if I could. Not that I am playing favorites or anything but this girl will steal your heart in a minute. She is big, beautiful markings already and so socialable. She is so happy all the time- that tail is just a swaying constantly. She comes to me and loves to play all the time. I have literally had to do no work with her- she has been this way since her eyes opened. She is so friendly already with everyone. She is definately the little social butterfly of the bunch. We just adore her.

July 24, 2010 Nora had her babies! How is that for perfect timing! They were all born by 10:00am. We are blessed with 3 healthy babies- all girls! As you can see by the pictures one pup is just a ham- she is so big and all she does is eat and eat, she looks like she is going to explode. Nora is one happy mom. She absolutely loves being a mother. Sorry for not posting sooner- one pup we had to bottle feed for a week, she just couldn't figure out this nursing thing, so we had to help her along a bit but she has it down now! Aren't they just sweet as can be?? Shortly their eyes should be open. You can click on the photo to make them larger. It is going to be so much fun watching these little pups grow.

A Note On Fleas, Ticks and Worms~

Remember everyone it's that time of year for flea and tick infestations, please make sure to see your Veterinarian for flea and tick protection for your pets, we use Frontline- it's easy to apply and lasts for one month so you will need to treat for this once a month.

Also, especially important with the Elkhounds if they are outside dogs is to treat for worms. We have our dogs on Heartguard which prevents heartworm, hook and round worm. We also treat for tape worms with Safeguard Canine Dewormer. Your Veterinarian can best guide you in providing all the proper care and treatments so that your dog is a healthy dog.

We as Norwegian Elkhound owners always error on the side of caution. In fact, we are probably overly cautious- just because they are a huge part of our family. Elkhounds when outside get into everything, they love to hunt and/or corale other animals- this is just what they do. So again, be sure to get your dogs in for regular check-ups.

We, well Miss Nora is expecting puppies approximately July 24, 2010! We are so excited and can hardly wait. I will post updates as I have them and some new pictures of Miss Nora. Anyone wanting to get on a wait list please email mandm899@yahoo.com with your contact information. First come, first serve basis. We require a $100.00 non-refundable deposit to reserve a pup. These pups will be ready to go to their new owners approx. end of Aug to first week in Sept.

If we are going to get in any kind of vacation this summer, guess we better do it soon as it won't be long and we will have extra little babies to take care of :)

You can scroll down to see pictures of the previous litter. They brought nothing but pure joy into our lives- even if it was for just a short time until they went to their new owners.

Smokey Goes To His Home in MN

Our last pup leaves the nest! Whew what a handful these pups were but we enjoyed every minute of it. This guy we have missed the most and only because he was the last to leave the nest, we had more time to really bond with him. Nora and I had a difficult few weeks afterwards being empty nesters, I felt so bad for Nora- she is such a sweet momma and oh did she mope around here, she just loved those babies to pieces, it really amazed me at what a good mother she was and this was her first litter- it rarely turns out that good on the first time. At least we know little Smokey went to a good home and from last report in, he has adjusted very well to his new home. Can't believe all the babies are gone, definitely lonely around here without them.

It's difficult for me to understand how larger breeders do this every day. There is just no way possible to breed dogs and not fall in love with all these pups. We love the dogs as if they were our children. This is not a business to us and we could never treat it as such. We won't have pups unless we have quality time for every single one of them. It's not about the money and it never will be.

So for now, we wait until next breeding. Yes! We are going to try it again! Those puppies are just so precious and besides how great it is to be able to make someone else happy with a new baby puppy. Till nest time ~

Many thanks to all the new owners for keeping in touch with updates and new pictures. It is fun to see how they are growing and fun to hear how the owners and puppies are adjusting. These pups were like our kids for a short while so we really appreciate everyone taking time out of their busy schedules to keep us posted- I don't expect that, but it's so great when we do hear from you!

Leah's in front, Helen's pup in back. They love the snow! Helen's Smokey we let out to play in the snow every day now. He is such a little cutie and so friendly. His mother takes him for a run every day around the yard. What's so funny is Smokey can hardly keep up, poor little thing is so tired from jumping through the snow by the time momma gets back with him. Didn't realize she would take him so far from the house so we have had to really monitor that! Nora is only trying to teach him but she doesn't realize his little legs are to short for that kind of a work out just yet.

We say good bye to our little peanut. I made him a cute bandana but had to head out so quickly with him didn't get one last photo. I delivered him to his new mommy and daddy on Sat. Feb. 6th. He was my little peanut and especially hard to let go. He was a little upset on the way there, I felt so bad I wanted to go back home with him, he got car sick and was scared to death but snuggled up to his new owners quickly once we arrived. Last report in from his new owners- the little peanut is doing well with eating and pottying outside so seems to be adjusting beautifully. Yaayy what a relief! I know I said I would miss them all but this was "my" little peanut, he was so sweet and snuggly, he is a keeper, he just pulled on those heart strings but I know he is in very good hands and will get lots of love throughout his life time. We will miss you little baby.

We must say our good bye's to this sweet boy. He headed to MT on Friday Feb. 5, Mark was heading to the mountains to go snowmobiling so it worked out great to get him deliverd. Oh, we are going to miss this little guy, he was the sweet sensitive little boy of the group . Last report in prior to being delivered he did very well on the long 18 hour trip to MT. No car sickness and no accidents in his kennel either, what a little honey! We hope Leonard is enjoying his new family member and enjoys many, many years to come with him. We certainly enjoyed having him here. Isn't this just the cutest picture. We are going to miss you little baby.

One last hug before we say good-bye to this sweet boy.

It's Wed. morning and we packed up the big boy for his trip to his forever home in Colorado, he is in very good hands for the trip there and going to a good home. He is the first to leave the nest and I must say I am very sad to see him go. Tuesday night he got lots of lovin', I held him extra long, he laid on his back and let me rub his tummy (oh, did he love that) just like his daddy. He laid there and didn't move till I quit! We also took him outside and he proceeded to dunk his entire face in the snow! What a cutie pie. We are going to miss him sooo much. He has grown so fast, so it is time, I know, I know.... I have to let go. Can't help it but I feel like one of my kids are leaving home. We wish Dan much joy with his new dog in the years to come!

Babies Get Their First Nail Clipping

All the babies got their toe nails trimmed tonight! Mark held them while I cut and they all sat so nice while we tackled this project. Which was great- made the job so much easier. Helen's was the best behaved. He will sit and let you do just about anything to him. Helen and Dan's pups love having their bellies rubbed just like their daddy. Of course, I had to hold Tai's pup, he is just so darn irresistable you can't help but scoop him up. Funny how he comes to me and just sits and gives me those sweet puppy dog eyes until I pick him up and hold him and when I put him down he cries a bit but then the rest got jelous so I ended up having to hold them all! Weather was to icky today so we will have to take them outside tomorrow (Sunday).

Click on the pictures, see if you can find your collar color to find your pup, I try to put your names where I am sure. I know it's hard to tell because they all look so much alike. They have so much fur it's hard to get photos with collars showing. They all look like a bunch of little bear cubs right now. Tai's pup gets the award for most photogenic! Dan's is still holding at biggest puppy right now, coming in at 9lbs! Sorry, you'll have to ignore the little poops in the backrounds, took pictures before cleanup, these guys are eating good and pooping alot right now, I don't really like that part! They had their second deworming today and tomorrow (Sat. 23rd) if weather allows we are taking them outside for the first time and perhaps they will meet their daddy. Have a great weekend!

A little note from us... As the time nears closer to picking up/delivering the puppies, I realize I have become so attached to all these little guys. It is going to be so hard letting them go. I know they are going to good people and that is all I can ask for but all the same it's going to be a bit hard. Heck, if it were up to me I'd probably want to keep at least one from every litter but I know I can't do that! So, I am just trying to soak it all up now while I can before they go to their forever homes. I hope you all enjoy your new babies as much as we have.

They are starting to play more now and it is so much fun to watch. It is also neat how each one of them has their own little unique personality. They have all become my personal favorites. There is just something to love in every single one of them. I love this breed of dog and have had so much pleasure raising and taking care of the puppies until you all are ready for them to come "home". They are all very healthy and very happy puppies! They go in for their vet check on the 25th already! That should be interesting hauling in momma and all 5 babies, this will be their first outing. They are growing up so fast- just want them to stay babies forever. Nora is slowly weening them but I have not wanted her to quit completely just yet, I like this baby phase to much and I think she does too. But suppose it won't be to much longer perhaps in the next week or so. They are also eating puppy food with milk replacer right now and they are loving that.

We hope once you all get your pups home, you keep in touch and let us know how it's going along with photos once in a while if you can or if you have time. It would be fun to see how they are coming along in their new homes as they grow.

I will post more pictures between now and this weekend, had a bit of computer troubles but am back up and running now! ~ Michelle & Mark ~

Perhaps next week I can get better cooperation?? Tonight all the babies received their first round of dewormer and we weighed all of them, weights came in at approx. 4-5 lbs. each already with the CO. Black collar boy and the MN. blue collar boy coming in the biggest! We sat with them for about an hour and I actually did take some video but for whatever reason blogger is not allowing videos at this time, not sure why. I will try again but have many times already been unsuccessful. I just can't get over how adorable they are and how much fun it is to watch them play, wish you could all stop in for a visit each week to watch them! Enjoy your photos!

Born Dec. 14, 2009. We couldn't be more pleased! 5 baby boys! Cute as can be. This being Nora's first litter, you would think she has been doing this forever, she is a fantastic mom! This has been quite a neat experience. I find I am becoming attached to all of them, how am I going to be able to part with them. Both Mark & I take turns checking in on the "kids", they are coming along wonderful, was able to sneak in a get a few pictures~ will post more pictures later.

The Stud Finally Did His Job

Yaayyy....Nora is finally pregnant! We are so excited and can't wait for puppies to arrive. We figured her due date to be Dec. 15 give or take so we will have baby puppies running around at Christmas time. We just can't wait. I think she will be a good mamma. So for now, she is doing lots of eating and sleeping. I will post pictures once babies are born. Jack is confused and a little lonely right now. Nora in preparation for babies and started pushing Jack out of her life so Jack is forced to become more independent. Since we got Jack, he has always had Nora by his side to play with, he has never been left alone, the two really seem to just love each other. Since Nora has started pushing him away, all he does is cry at the windows or door, he is so lonely we have had to let him in the house- big baby that he is.

This is Jack~

He is a big, gentle boy. We got him last spring, he was cute as a button when we got him and we were sure amazed how fast he grew. It was no time and he had outgrown the crate we had inside the house for him and didn't take long and he was ready for the outdoors! He, very much like Nora is gentle, loving, sweet personality. He is our big baby as he wines when he doesn't get his way. We adore this guy! He never leaves the yard, does not chase vehicles (Nora helped raise him really well). Nora was already full grown when we got Jack so Nora really worked with him as a pup which was really nice, they instantly became best buddies. He is such a baby sometimes I think he would prefer to be in the house with us all the time, he just sits on our deck pearing in the window watching what we are doing. Funny to watch how excited he gets to see us that tail just a wagging like crazy. He really turned out to be such a nice dog, his added bonus is how big and beautiful he is, with really nice markings. If I had the time to show him I would, in fact that may come at some point. He does have Champion Bloodlines and you can definately tell this when looking at him. He is just perfect in every way.

About Nora~
We have had Nora now for a couple years, she was raised in our home for about 6 mo. until we felt comfortable letting her outside by herself. She is pure breed Norwegian Elkhound. She is our sweet girl. I have had a few dogs in my life time but have to say she is my favorite. She is just has the sweetest personality, with the acception of course when she is busy cornering other animals in the yard as is standard to this breed. We have had to rescue her from a trap set by neighboring trappers, she nearly could have drowned, thank goodness we found her in time! Trappers are no longer allowed to set their traps in our river behind our home. She ended up having like 6 or 8 stitches from that! Sure gave us a good scare!
Nora is very well mannered, well trained, gentle and loving. We are just blessed to have her. She is like one of our kids. She does not have a mean spirit at all. She absolutely loves children and the UPS man cause he brings treats! She never leaves the yard and never chases vehicles. The only time she barks is when there is a creature in the yard that she can see or smell and is not familiar with. She loves to be indoors any chance she gets (she loves being spoiled) but these dogs are most happy outside when it is like 30-40 degrees. She is our sweet girl and we love her to pieces. Can't wait for her to have puppies, think she will be a very good mother and produce some real nice puppies.
